As porn's theatrical age drew to a close in the Old Country, Parisian field leader Alpha France decided to pull out all the stops for its final production (though cinemas continued for a while longer exhibiting purchased product) and wisely gave its in house director Claude Bernard-Aubert – a/k/a "Burd Tranbaree" – Carte Blanche for what was to prove his farewell to fornication films as well. With an alleged cast of 36, a veritable Who's Who of the period though many of them restricted to orgy action, Tranbaree did not stray too far from his comfortable habitat, i.e. the upwardly mobile middle class of the French capital. While this favored choice of protagonist had stifled many a previous cinematic endeavor, he finally got the recipe right and managed to elicit audience sympathy for the plight of the socially pampered. Much of the film's success can be attributed to leading lady Cathy Menard, a fine actress with hauntingly sad eyes, who delivers an absolute career performance – along with her very different turn in Gérard Kikoïne's scathing BOURGEOISE…ET PUTE! – as apparently prototypical bored housewife Babeth. Yet it's not her ennui which propels the pornographic proceedings but rather the dissatisfaction of her horn dog husband Léopold (stalwart Richard "Allan" Lemieuvre still shedding new light on familiar territory) who has been stringing along several mistresses to supplement the routine bedroom action he gets at home.

The reporter Emanuelle (Laura Gemser) is on an undercover mission in a prison. If you ever watched any of the women-in-prison movies of the 1980s, you know: prisoners are not treated kindly there. However, "Violenza..." is a little bit superior to most of this genre insofar as it is not only into shower scenes. It's a tough, dark, fast moving flick with an amazing Laura Gemser and her husband Gabriele Tinti as a doctor who helps her to escape. The slowly evolving love interest between the doctor and Emanuelle is well scripted. Not for the fainthearted, however, is a scene where Emanuelle is locked up in a dark cell with a bunch of rats attacking her. Two years later, director Bruno Mattei went on to shoot "Rats - Notte di Terrore" with many more rats - a kind of unhealthy fascination, if you ask me. Laura Gemser and Gabriele Tinti continued with another prison movie "I Violenti" which is a sequel (not as good as the first film) to "Violenza..." although Tinti plays a different character.

Of the two movies on this release, I'm definitely partial to Hot Legs due to story, actresses and lighting (some of those closeups are extremely memorable). Again we get some fantasic credit music courtesy of Jay Philips who also did the music for Hot Legs. This one is more like 70's low key guitar pop, but it features the movie title again!

Wow! Quando l'amore è oscenità, or more commonly known as Oscenità, is a very rare and hard to find film. I only know of two sources which carry it. Of all the hype I've heard of this little known rarity, it does stand up to what is said. This movie does deliver the goods. This masterpiece directed by Renato Polselli (aka Ralph Brown) was made in 73, but censors deemed the movie to obscure towards women. The films dialog was changed and not released until 79, taking on a different approach-now aimed at masculine perversions. Oscenità surely beats out the "sexploitation" competition by D'Amato and others. The film presents an array of nasties, from intercourse with a tree branch, candle masturbation, whipping, switchblade foreplay, orgies in the presence of animals, a woman urinating in a bucket, black magic lesbian rituals, toe masturbation, women fooling around with a real corn on the cobb, and last but not least; a scene with a woman and a donkey, which makes the one in Emanuelle in America seem very tame!! The film is only in Italian with no subtitles. The picture was not the best quality (which I think actually adds a surreal look to the film), but it was a very interesting viewing experience. I highly recommended this film for fans of exploitation and the obscure.

How’s this for a concept: An American Guy with a Sex Hang-Up Gets His First Taste of Scandinavian Sex Therapy. Socko! Add "Johnny" (William Howard) to play the guy (the same lanky, big-dicked, Johnny Wadd-type stud who stars in Hand of Pleasure and Terror at Orgy Castle), and mix well with "Erika", an angular blonde with a heavy accent who plays the sex therapist. Throw the two of them together in a series of explicit sex scenes, splice in some terrific stock footage of picturesque Copenhagen, and lay over a narration that explains everything to the viewer. Zowie! As a formula for ’70s softcore, that would have done nicely. But the makers of Danish and Blue also had the good sense (and immaculate taste) to add a totally superfluous character called "Ketti" and casting Flesh Gordon’s Suzanne Fields in the part. The result: Smut Magic. Suzanne plays a maid-cum-sex-showgirl who literally latches on to Johnny and helps him overcome his sex hang-up. We meet her, along with Johnny, at a sex show featuring "authentic" Scandinavians like RON DARBY.

Oh, those filthy Puritans! This must be the work of the devil! Who knew you could do porn while playing to a classical literary device? Apparently, Zebedy Colt did as he proves with his period piece -- no pun intended -- The Devil Inside Her (1977). The opening credits of the film set the story in "New England 1826." Ezekial Hammond (Colt) toils on his farm with his wife and two coming-of-age daughters.

One afternoon, Ezekiel discovers Faith (Terri Hall) kissing his hired help, Joseph (Tait). He orders her to strip and provides her with a healthy dose of lashes and Joseph runs into the wilderness. It is there, that he meets Satan who overtakes Joseph and enters the farm to smite all things pure. Satan then sets out to possess every member of the small clan to defile their puritan sensibilities. Once Ezekiel has discovered his plot to sacrifice Faith at the alter, he sets out to foil Satan's plan--but not before several members of his clan are forcefully DP'd and golden showered.
