The daredevil woman in the show looks exactly like one of the women in the movie, so the man invites her to join them for a nightcap. Tensions among the family seem to rise. She stays overnight, and during her 24 hours in the castle, each of its three residents involves her in a fantasy. She, in turn, keeps asking, "Who has the gun?" Often touted as one of the finest erotic films ever made, The Image blends beautiful cinematography, skillful editing and douses of legitimately "hot" action in a way that is still fetching and surprising. However, this no playful softcore romp — the action crosses over into hardcore territory (graphic fellatio) and the narrative attempts a serious consideration of sex and its repercussions. In essence, Jean represents the male spectator of pornography — he fulfills the "ultimate male fantasy" of participating in a ménage a trois style relationship with two women, one of whom he is able to humiliate as much as he pleases. It is therefore interesting that his fantasy crumbles when he dares to cross the line of actual intimacy, represented by a kiss he gives Anne; in this (at times violent) world of roleplaying fantasies and sexual domination, emotion has no place. Thus, the film serves as a commentary on sex without emotion — it is less a condemnation of sadomasochistic fantasies than a critique of people who allow themselves to be dominated by selfish whims and desires.

The Princess and the Call Girl (1986) - Gérard Loubeau & Radley Metzger

Maraschino Cherry (1978) - Radley Metzger

Synopsis:
Maraschino Cherry (Gloria Leonard) is a high priced Madame who is visited one day by her little sister who wants to learn the business and set up her own escort service.
By the time Radley Metzger made his final XXX feature film Maraschino Cherry. He had all but run out of ideas and inspiration. It is almost like he saw the writing on the wall, like he had four years earlier when he made the transition from soft-core into hard-core cinema. The way adult film’s would be made was on the verge of changing as shooting on video made things cheaper and more accessible for anyone who wanted to make a film, to do so.

There is a disjointed feel to Maraschino Cherry that is not as prominent in his previous hard-core films. This is most likely due to the fact that he used footage that he had previously shot for other projects and not used and incorporated it into Maraschino Cherry. For instance, the scenes with actress Constance Money are most definitely left over scenes from her previous film with Radley Metzger, The Opening of Misty Beethoven.

While all of adult film auteur Radley Metzger's soft and hardcore films bear his unmistakable stamp of elegance, only The Opening of Misty Beethoven broke the XXX mold and earned respected as a well made film which happened to contain actual sex. Thanks to a witty script, deft performances (yes, everyone here can act), striking sets, and continental locales, this is one for the time capsule.
