Two sisters, Justine and Juliette, are as different as it's possible to be, but they both wind up working as prostitutes. The main difference between the two, however, is that Juliette enjoys every minute of it, romping with the rich and powerful in the lap of luxury, while Justine detests her position, lives in squalor and poverty and is dragged deeper and deeper into degradation and perversion. The film is based on a novel by Marquis de Sade.
