Una Rajita Para Dos AKA A Crack For Two (1984) - Jesus Franco & Lina Romay

 

 Quote: Yet another hardcore film co-directed by Jess Franco and Lina Romay[Lulu LaVerne] As usual with a Franco hardcore picture, this film doesn't go for anything sexual but instead it throws countless sex scenes into a bizarre story. The story centers around a government agent who is following a spy (Romay) who puts some sort of secret chip up women's butts in order to carry out only God knows what. I had to view this film in Spanish without any subtitles so I'm not exactly sure what the chips were being used for but it doesn't appear that there was too much to the story since the majority of the 83-minute running time centers on the sex scenes. For the most part these scenes are poorly shot and you can tell that the director was working on a very low budget. At least this time out Franco was able to cast some better looking women as some of his hardcore films seem to have him digging at the bottom of the barrel. Romay is pretty good in her few scenes in the film, although she only appears at the start and end. If you're wanting to see her in hardcore action then here's another chance as that's all she's really doing. The supporting cast members are interesting at best, although Franco does show up in a few scenes. There's really nothing here that stands out among the other hardcore films Franco was making during this time period but if you must view everything the director has done (like me) this one here is certainly far better than some of the movies he was making around this time

Two Female Spies with Flowered Panties AKA Ópalo de fuego: Mercaderes del sexo (1980) - Jesus Franco

SYNOPSIS:
A sexual crazy couple kidnap a young girl (Susan Hemmingway) and begin to sexually torture and rape her but have no fear because two strippers (Lina Romay, Nadine Pascal) are on the case. This is a rather crazy and silly Franco caper that spoofs various genres but mainly the detective films of the 1940s. There's a lot of humor, a lot of sex and of course a whole bunch of naked women running around.

Extremely bizarre Jess Franco flick about an actress (Lina Romay) who puts on sex shows with a story involving aliens who kidnap girls and knock them up. The first gag is that the women, due to the super sperm, can deliver 600 babies an hour. The second gag is that real aliens see this and decide to get in on the action. This is probably the best sex comedy I've seen from Franco but I had to view it in Spanish without any subs so with subs I might like it even more. Romay, when she's not showing off her sex talent, can be very funny with a light comic touch and she gets to deliver that several times throughout the film. The sex scenes are all very soft and it's rather funny seeing Franco, a sex director, show why "sex is crazy" to look at. The alien make up at the start of the film is cheap but very effective looking. Original title: El Sexo Esta Loco.

Revenge of the Alligator Ladies [Original Cut] (2013) - Jesus Franco

FILM SYNOPSIS/BRIEF REVIEW:
Jess Franco plays himself in this sly comedy in which he is engaged in directing another erotic film while the subject of his previous film, private detective Al Pereira, attempts to relate to the eccentric film making process of Jess Franco. Pereira also has difficult relationships with his son and women in general, illustrated in various amusing vignettes. He travels to Germany where he becomes accidentally involved in a sort of international espionage affair due to his presence at a Communist gathering.

Das Frauenhaus AKA Blue Rita (1977) - Jesus Franco

Blue Rita is more or less what you'd expect from a Jess Franco film: very explicit - very kinky - very strange - very incoherent - very bad. The plot, as far as I could say, is about some Parisian strippers who double as secret agents: they kidnap enemy (whose enemy? Never mind) spies and use sexual torture methods to make them talk. To give Franco credit, the production design is colorful and the cinematography is often striking. But the editing is incompetent and the pace is deadly. What puzzles me is how Franco convinced so many young women in his films to bare everything and be treated as pieces of meat by the camera, but I guess the men don't come off much better either. Still, if you just want to stare at naked women on the screen "Blue Rita" will do the job....but so will many other AND better films.

Sie tötete in Ekstase aka She Killed in Ecstasy (1971) - Jesus Franco

Jesus Franco has made so many movies that it's almost inevitable that he will occasionally get one right. This is one of those movies where his bizarro and repetitive plots, his pan-and-zoom-happy cinematography and his obtrusive jazz score all manage to gel for a pretty dumb but thoroughly enjoyable movie. It helps, of course, that this was one of only four films he made with the incredible Soledad Miranda before her untimely death.

There's no denying that Franco's regular collaborator (and wife), Lina Romay, was a very sexy actress in her prime and has become something of a legend in her own right, but she is a pale shadow of Soledad Miranda, who was if anything even more beautiful and had a class and talent that none of Franco's later actresses could hope to achieve.

Botas Negras, Latigo de Cuero (1983) - Jesús Franco

Al Pereira is hired by Lina (Candy Coster, who is Lina Romay in a blonde wig, so Lina playing Candy playing Lina), the wife of a wealthy man, to recover some compromising photos. She has sex with him by way of a retainer. In the course of his investigation, Al is obliged to commit a couple of murders... and he's left holding the bag when Lina turns out not to be what she seems to be.

Desdemona lives on a remote island with her strange family: her father Mario Pontecorvo, her stepmother Dulcinea and her mentally retarded sister Pulova. The background is one of endless radio and TV broadcasts of commercials and ridiculous programmes. Desdemona tries to ward off her boredom by masturbating, provoking her father or teaching her sister how to ‘play with herself. She even goes as far as asking her father if he would fancy raping her. The father and Dulcinea do not have a successful sex life and he would seem to be constantly haunted by his past. Mario is an expatriate Argentinean actor who claims to be a political refugee. Dulcinea hates her stepdaughters and will not stop at beating or abusing them if she deems it necessary. The family routine is interrupted with the arrival of a very virile hunter who will contribute even further to break down the family relationships. First, she fucks with the flighty Desdemona and Dulcinea herself is to later surrender herself to him in order to satisfy her sexual desires, while Mario has no choice but to look on helplessly at what is happening.

Young German officer Erich von Strasser (Jean-Marie Lemaire) leaves his fiance and heads off to war. Stock footage of Nazi desert warfare plays and before you know it Erich is back in Germany, recipient of the Iron Cross and a national war hero. First stop the whorehouse then, naturally. Where he bumps into his fiance, awkward. Cue a flashback showing how/why she ended up there and after a night of passion Erich goes to his superiors asking she be freed. Unfortunately, for reasons still unclear to me, she is shipped off to another location and Erich sets off in pursuit.

Three couples are staying at a hotel and all are having sexual issues. One day a professional porn star (Lina Romay) shows up and teaches everyone how to do it. This hardcore film is once again from Spanish director Jess Franco and this one here is certainly the best of the three I've seen. Again, I'm really not sure how to rate this stuff but Romay, when not sexually servicing everyone, has a lot of nice, comedic moments, which is why I rank this the highest. It's also nice seeing Susan Hemmingway, although it took me a while to get use to seeing her in hardcore scenes. Again, this normally isn't my type of thing but my goal is to see every Franco film.

El hotel de los ligues (1983) - Jesús Franco

Three couples meet in an elegant Costa del Sol hotel. They are from various social classes and are gathered here for totally different reasons. One couple has met through a matrimonial agency. Another is composed of a fashion designer and his wife who are on the verge of seperation because of the husband's homosexuality and are here because the wife hopes to recover her husband's desire. The third couple is a German VIP, Ilsa, and her Gypsy gigolo who sells his charms for a few dollars. They are all going to be strongly attracted by Eva Bombon, a cabaret dancer, who came there to seek calm and solitude to prepare her next show. Her exuberant beauty is going to set their senses on fire and end their conflicts... very cordially!

Je brûle de partout (1979) - Jesús Franco

Synopsis:
Susan Hemingway hooks up with a guy at a discoteque (GREAT disco scene!), has unwilling sex (Brigitte Lahaie joins in on the action) and is drugged and sold off to a "deluxe bordello" where a bunch of dirty, moaning girls are kept in a constant state of excitement by some sort of sex-gas that is pumped into their living quarters. This is film has almost non-stop softcore sex but is still interesting for a francophile due to the dark subject matter and claustrophobic, sweaty atmosphere. There is no happy sex in this film, only rape, perversion, sadism and unfulfilment (as usual in Franco's world). Very low budget film, even by Franco's standard, Franco does the best to cover up the absence of a budget, a descent crew and good locations with some interesting/eccentric camera work and angles. I liked it, but it's almost impossible to discuss in terms of "good" and "bad" and I wouldn't recommend to anybody who haven't been bitten by the Franco bug.

Camino solitario (1984) - Jesús Franco

SYNOPSIS:
The life of a private eye in Spain is very different from the one surrounded by blondes and booze that we see in movies. Especially if the detective in the case is our hero Alfredo Pereira, who divides his time between his more or less scandalous cases in the most luxurious and international corner of the Costa del Sol, and his unsual private life. His private life is called Flavia, and it must be admitted she is a blonde, with huge blue eyes. The thing is, she is seven years old and the daughter of our detective, who was given custody of her when he divorced his wife. A new case puts Pereira in contact with a beautiful woman, Eva Radeck, the wife of a foreign financier. Their story is going to perhaps take up too much of Alfredo Pereira's time as the investigation takes on increasingly sombre tints of hatred, vengeance and death. Pereira, who is only tough on the outside, gets caught in the web spun by the seductive Eva and becomes an innocent party in the case, while continuing to be Flavia's soft-hearted daddy. Events come to a head with the vicious murder of Eva.

Justine (1979) - Joe D'Amato & Jesus Franco

"Justine" is the re-edited (by Joe D'Amato)1979 re-issue of Jess Franco's apparently never-released 1975 film "De Sade's Juliette". D'Amato gutted about half of Jess' original footage and replaced it with scenes from Franco's films "Midnight Party" and "Shining Sex" and re-dubbed the entire film with new dialog. Why he tampered with Franco's first true hardcore (XXX) film is anybody's guess, but fortunately the end result is still quite good, which is testimony to Franco's talents more than D'Amato's, although D'Amato's adding of the Nico Fidenco soundtrack to the film (replacing the Daniel White original) gives the film an edgy element that other Franco films lack. This film, besides being confused with Franco's 1968 film "Justine" (the one with Romina Power), has apparently been confused here with Claude Pierson's 1975 "Justine De Sade", which stars Alice Arno and is a totally different film in which Franco had no involvement. To further insult Franco and Lina Romay, Alice Arno is given star billing in Franco's "Justine" (the re-edited version), despite the fact that she is not even in the film, and Lina Romay is downgraded to supporting billing, despite the fact that the entire film revolves around her and she is in virtually every scene. Again, this appears to be a total slap in the face to this creative duo -- perhaps the producers were unhappy with Jess and Lina's intent to film a truly interesting adult film as opposed to a frothy one.

The Franco bounty continues with this FULL DVD RIP of one of Jess Franco's most elusive Golden Films productions, made in 1981 between "El Hotel de los Ligues" and "Macumba Sexual." It's so rare, in fact, that no print was available for review at the time the book "Obsession - The Films of Jess Franco" was published, and it's not discussed in Carlos Aguilar's book either.

It's a sequel of sorts to "La Chica de las Bragas Transparentes/Pick-Up Girls" (1980) which introduced Antonio Mayans as private detective Al Crosby, the role he plays here - an inexplicable knock-off of the Al Pereira character that dates back in Franco's work to Eddie Constantine's portrayal in "Attack of the Robots" (1965). There were 17 Golden Films productions made between 1981 and 1985, of which "La Noche de los Sexos Abiertos" was the second. Franco produced these films himself and had final cut on them, which explains why they form such an intense and unapologetically original body of work.
