Mil Sexos Tiene la Noche AKA Night of 1,000 Sexes (1984) - Jesús Franco

SYNOPSIS:
Some people dismiss Jess Franco as a talentless hack. And with some of his films it’s easy to see why. But at his best you can tell why he has such a following. Mil Sexos was one of the films Franco made after his return to Spain in the late 70s in the short period between the relaxation of censorship and the introduction of hard core.

Working for the Golden Films company, under these favourable conditions he could make pretty much what he wanted as long as he came in on budget and on time. Films like this, Gemidos de Placer, El Sexos Esta Loco and Las Casa de las Mujeres Perdidas provided a mid era flourishing of Franco’s considerable talent.

Mil Sexos is a remake of Nightmares Come at Night, which had already been remade as Voodoo Passion. This is probably the best version of the three. But despite using the same plot all three films are completely different. Franco, is less concerned with the essentials of narrative than with mood and style. Lina Romay stars as a nightclub mind reader who finds herself under the influence of sinister forces and suffers from nightmares of bloody murder.

Escalofrío aka Satans Blood (1978) - Carlos Puerto

A young, expecting couple depart for a weekend getaway when they are lured to a country villa by another couple under the guise that the male of the latter recognizes the younger man as an old college acquaintance.

After some Ouija board dabbling gone awry, the young couple find themselves stranded by a storm and reluctantly agree to spend the night with their hosts. An orgy, dead dog, murder, suicide, and a couple of "return from the deads" later, our two protagonists successfully flee their captors only to find the nightmare may not be over after all.

"Escalofrío" aka "Satan's Blood" has some extremely erotic scenes, primarily so because of the lovely Mariana Karr who plays the young, mother-to-be wife. There are also a few disturbing scenes involving cannibalism and sexual sacrifice, not to mention poor Blackey's fate.

Two Female Spies with Flowered Panties AKA Ópalo de fuego: Mercaderes del sexo (1980) - Jesus Franco

SYNOPSIS:
A sexual crazy couple kidnap a young girl (Susan Hemmingway) and begin to sexually torture and rape her but have no fear because two strippers (Lina Romay, Nadine Pascal) are on the case. This is a rather crazy and silly Franco caper that spoofs various genres but mainly the detective films of the 1940s. There's a lot of humor, a lot of sex and of course a whole bunch of naked women running around.

Extremely bizarre Jess Franco flick about an actress (Lina Romay) who puts on sex shows with a story involving aliens who kidnap girls and knock them up. The first gag is that the women, due to the super sperm, can deliver 600 babies an hour. The second gag is that real aliens see this and decide to get in on the action. This is probably the best sex comedy I've seen from Franco but I had to view it in Spanish without any subs so with subs I might like it even more. Romay, when she's not showing off her sex talent, can be very funny with a light comic touch and she gets to deliver that several times throughout the film. The sex scenes are all very soft and it's rather funny seeing Franco, a sex director, show why "sex is crazy" to look at. The alien make up at the start of the film is cheap but very effective looking. Original title: El Sexo Esta Loco.

Revenge of the Alligator Ladies [Original Cut] (2013) - Jesus Franco

Jess Franco plays himself in this sly comedy in which he is engaged in directing another erotic film while the subject of his previous film, private detective Al Pereira, attempts to relate to the eccentric film making process of Jess Franco. Pereira also has difficult relationships with his son and women in general, illustrated in various amusing vignettes. He travels to Germany where he becomes accidentally involved in a sort of international espionage affair due to his presence at a Communist gathering.

Cariño mío, ¿qué me has hecho? aka Darling, What Have You Done to Me? (1979) - Enrique Guevara

Chilean-born director Enrique Guevara was one of the foremost exponents of the erotic cinema which blossomed in Spain in the late 70s after the death of Franco and abolishment of censorship. These films, classified 'S' for sex content, were often more varied and inventive, and heavier on plot, than their counterparts in countries with more developed traditions of erotic movie-making. Guevara's preferred actress was his sister, Raquel Evans, who is better known today for her appearances in the films of Jess Franco. Cariño mio tells the story of an Oedipally-minded young man who loses his mother in an accident and goes to live with an aunt. The latter so much resembles his mother that the boy becomes obsessed with her and as a first step to possession decides to separate her from her partner,

Apocalipsis sexual (1982) - Carlos Aured & Sergio Bergonzelli

Synopsis
Director Aured is best remembered for his early films with Paul Naschy. These titles include THE MUMMY'S REVENGE, HORROR RISES FROM THE TOMB and CURSE OF THE DEVIL. With those types of credits he might seem like a strange choice for a hardcore Spanish flick but there's no denying that he certainly created one of the strangest flicks ever made. Five people in a gang (two played by Ajita Wilson and Lina Romay) have fun by constantly having sex with one another and doing petty crimes but they decide to take things a step further by kidnapping a rich man's daughter. Soon they're demanding one-million in cash but they're also turned on by the fact that the girl is a virgin and they all want a part of her. Soon the victim falls for one of the members and tries to get him to run off with her. As with many films in this genre, this one was filmed in a soft (74-minute) and hard (92-minute) version and I was able to see a subtitled hardcore print. The picture quality was fairly bad but it was certainly nice to see the subtitles. The story itself really isn't anything that great and in facts it's rather simple. The majority of the time we're either watching sex or the various characters are talking about forming smaller groups and leaving the rest behind. None of the dialogue is all that good but for this type of film it's not overly bad. The crime aspect of the story isn't anything you wouldn't see in a third-rate American porno and it all leads up to an ending that most people will see coming from a mile away.

In the course of his investigation, Al is obliged to commit a couple of murders... and he's left holding the bag when Lina turns out not to be what she seems to be.
