Sweden is Love (1970) - Torgny Wickman

A strange, looking to be super rare documentary.
It's basically a voice-over man and sex specialists (real or actors ?) talking about sex in a very libertarian approach and how the Western society of the time was trying to repress it, which was totally couterproductive because sex and sexual desires are a totally natural human function and repressing it was creating more harm than good. The makers of this film take Sweden as an example of a country with a more liberal approach but not enough as they spend a good deal explaining why the Swedish system doesn't work either. To illustrate the different chapters -- like prostitution, the sex industry, handicapped people, etc. -- they show sex scenes with what looks to be Swedish actors but it is not said whether the scenes were shot exclusively for this movie or whether it is archive footage from other movies. ”

Das Frauenhaus AKA Blue Rita (1977) - Jesus Franco

Blue Rita is more or less what you'd expect from a Jess Franco film: very explicit - very kinky - very strange - very incoherent - very bad. The plot, as far as I could say, is about some Parisian strippers who double as secret agents: they kidnap enemy (whose enemy? Never mind) spies and use sexual torture methods to make them talk. To give Franco credit, the production design is colorful and the cinematography is often striking. But the editing is incompetent and the pace is deadly. What puzzles me is how Franco convinced so many young women in his films to bare everything and be treated as pieces of meat by the camera, but I guess the men don't come off much better either. Still, if you just want to stare at naked women on the screen "Blue Rita" will do the job....but so will many other AND better films.

Lejonsommar AKA Vibration (1968) - Torbjörn Axelman

“As the 1960s drew to a close, European erotica really had its work cut out for it. In particular, Sweden, the country known for crashing American art houses with racy dramas, found itself competing with other countries like France and Italy to produce the latest scandal du jour. Budgets got bigger, acting got better, and plots became richer as directors tried to push the envelope, and no one benefited from this more than director and distributor Radley Metzger. Vibration (Lejonsommar) was released overseas hot on the heels of Metzger's Therese and Isabelle, also starring the fascinating and talented Essy Persson, and it shows the increasing influence of directors like Ingmar Bergman (who, lest we forget, was also promoted at first in the U.S. more for his flashes of skin than his artistic merit). Arty editing, sun-dappled cinematography, and joyous sexuality are the order of the day here, and Vibration is a breezy reminder of what softcore was like just before Sweden's next big shocker export, I Am Curious (Yellow).

There's to much to say about each individual movie, but the level of quality is high and most of them has very strong concepts. My favorite is also the first one, "Skin", directed by Elin Magnusson. It's a beautifully shot sex scene between a man and a woman all dressed in a skin-colored body stocking. Slowly they cut parts of their body skin open, and in the end there's nothing left of this shell. Only humans. It's sexy, erotic is probably the best in this collection of high quality shorts. "Body Contact" was almost scary to see, because it seems so real at first. It's about a girl who want's to make a porn movie and films the whole experience together with her friend. They find a man from the southern parts of Sweden and manipulates him to be in the movie. It's both funny, and even a bit unpleasent. "On Your Back Woman" is a cute wrestling-themed short with three lesbian couple. I think cute is a good word (maybe the director will disapprove there?), but it's also strong movie with strong love.

Breaking Point (1975) - Bo Arne Vibenius

IMDB user review:
Anton Rothschild plays a sick office clerk who (1) beats a woman to death with an ashtray and then has sex with her corpse; (2) follows a woman to her isolated country home (on work time, no less) and rapes her; (3) rapes another woman (again on work time)who dares to fight back, so he kills her in a flaming car crash; (4) urinates into a cup of coffee and serves it to his oversexed female co-worker; (5) picks up a hitchhiking whore who promptly strips and masturbates herself in the passenger seat; Rothschild promptly inserts his fingers and thumb into her and rubs the scent behind his ears. The whore then humps the car's gear shift and the two later have a slow-motion orgasm scene that must been seen; and the list goes on. Director Bo Vibenius has to be as twisted as the characters in his films, and the film's most disturbing scene finds Rothschild picking up a six-year-old girl right off the playground, driving her to a remote stretch of country, and eating a bag of candy with her, clearly contemplating what on earth he could do to her. He lets her go, though, but then the young girl is portrayed as the aggressor by asking "Shall we meet again?" to which our indignant rapist-murderer replies, "No!" This is one of the sickest, most demented pieces of cinema I have ever seen, but it is so well-thought out, so well executed, and so well-played that it cannot be denied that it is essential viewing for the fan of extreme exploitation films. If you can throw political correctness and any problems with misogyny out the window, you can undoubtedly enjoy this incredibly sick yet fascinating feature, and as any good director would do, Vibenius waits until the end of the film (literally in the last sentence of dialog) before he throws the sickest, most vile and perverse plot twist to the viewer, which, of course, I shall decline to reveal, because if you have not been so offended by the film's end that you have destroyed your copy you deserve to enjoy that last bit of ironic perversity.

Sex in Sweden aka Molly (1977) - Mac Ahlberg

Molly comes to the Riviera to visit friends who run a very social and liberal summer house with some interesting house guests. Molly is awakening sexually and very hot on the oldest son of the house, charming and horny Peter. A plot that ends up in some family confusion - Molly gets Peter's brother, who cannot get it on with her on the wedding night, and Peter takes over his place in the bed. Fine explicit and natural sex, no artificial climactic shots. Beautiful girls and handsome men. The only thing that is obvious is that Marie Forså (Molly) does not play in the one explicit sex scene she is supposed to have. Recommended for couples - it actually does have a plot.Sweden/France

Ett hål i mitt hjärta aka A hole In My Heart (2004) - Lukas Moodysson

A Hole in My Heart (Swedish: Ett hål i mitt hjärta) is a 2004 Swedish drama film written and directed by Lukas Moodysson, starring Thorsten Flinck, Sanna Bråding, Björn Almroth and Goran Marjanovic. The story revolves around a man who makes a pornographic film in his apartment with a friend and an attention-seeking starlet, while his teenage son stays in his room and listens to industrial rock.

The film is notable for its explicit imagery, including close-ups of vaginal reconstruction surgery, an anal sex scene without the use of lubrication, a masturbation scene with a toothbrush, and an extended scene about the woman's "smelly vagina". Moodysson leaves the interpretation of the film to the viewer: "I have cooked you a delicious meal, but I'm not going to chew it for you."

Taboo (1977) - Vilgot Sjöman

Imdb user :
Halvar Björks acting in this film must be one of the best ever performed in Swedish film. The film is still very interesting to see. People who can´t appreciate films about persons who are not as superficial and conventional as themselves will of course have some troubles with this film.

Joseph W. Sarno - Någon att älska AKA The Seduction of Inga (1971)

It has a few hardcore inserts.

After her boyfriend leaves her alone and penniless, Inga can only long for the love of another man devoted to satisfying her body and soul. Rolf, a young pop singer and musician, tries his best to seduce her, but she ultimately falls for Stig - a dashing older man and writer. Stig owns a beautiful villa, and Inga gladly becomes his personal secretary - and lover. When business takes Stig away, Inga's loneliness and unfulfilled sensual desires lead her straight into the arms and bed of Rolf. Inga's life is further complicated by the arrival of the young and beautiful Greta Tillstrom (Inger Sundh) who admits to an on-going affair with Stig and professes a blossoming attraction for Inga herself. As passions surge and forbidden lust is embraced, Inga will be forced to confront a shocking secret and reconcile an aching heart with a tireless young body that can't say no.

Quote:
This is Joe Sarno's sequel to his Swedish erotica classic "Inga", and while it is much-maligned (and somewhat deservedly), it does have a few things on its more famous predecessor. First off, it's in color (if pretty ugly color). Second, its incredibly beautiful Swedish star Marie Lilljehdahl is actually "barely legal" here whereas in the first one, made a few years earlier, she could better be described as "hardly legal". Perhaps most importantly though , this is more cosmopolitan, "Swinging"-Europe era movie rather than a provincial domestic drama like its predecessor.

As the story begins Inga has just broken-up with her long-time boyfriend, Sven. She takes a job as a secretary for an older writer (wearing the shortest miniskirt ever seen on any secretary anywhere) and, not too surprisingly, she falls into an affair with him. She also becomes involved with a bad Swedish rock star, which raises the ire of another of the rock star's girlfriends, an icy but sexy blonde minx name Greta (an alternate title for this movie was "Inga and Greta"). So will Greta take revenge? Maybe. Will her revenge involve lots of nudity and some lesbian/bi-sexual escapades by both Swedish lasses? I'm not saying. This movie IS kind of depressing as other reviewers have said, but then sex itself is often kind of depressing, so you perhaps shouldn't expect movies about it to always be light-hearted and fun.

Strangely, this pretty obscure movie recently got a star DVD release including interviews with Lillejedahl and with Joe Sarno and his wife Peggy. Joe Sarno has got to be the nicest man in porn, but he says some really strange things here like claiming that "other directors" (perhaps a reference to Jess Franco) really "exploited" Lillejedahl. That may very well be true, but coming from the guy that cast her in the original "Inga" when she was all of about sixteen. . .ummm. Not Sarno or Llijedahl's best movie certainly, but worth watching if you like 60's and 70's Swedish erotica.
